Title: Another Saturday Night and I Ain’t Got No Bodyanother
Author: Jennie Marts
Genre/Audience: Cozy mystery, romance
Publication: 2012
Source: Own, Kindle

I knew I wanted to read this book as soon as I read the description. Not only did it have the cozy mystery feel (one of my favorite genres), the main character is a dog-loving book fanatic who is a member of a book club! Sounds like someone I know… oh wait… ME! I related to Sunny right away in that we both lead quiet lives and are sort of home bodies. She reads a lot of books and fantasizes about living those book lives, all with her best pal, Beau, a precocious dog, by her side.

So the story is that Sunny is an elementary school teacher whose best friends are the members of her book club. After being single for far too long, they decide to set her up on six blind dates, even though she’s a bit reluctant. She’s also falling for her handsome new neighbor, Jake Landon. She’s a bit wary about him though, for a number of reasons: one, he moved into Walter’s house, an elderly man who happens to be missing, and whom Jake claims to be related to, and two, her nosey but lovable neighbor, Edna, saw him with a gun. What’s a girl to do? Well, this girl goes on the blind dates which are all quite hilarious, all the while pining for Jake, who she’s a bit afraid to get close to. She also does some investigating with her best friends about Walter’s mysterious disappearance and Jake’s fishy behavior regarding the disappearance.

This book was so incredibly fun. The characters were awesome, especially Edna, Sunny’s elderly friend/neighbor who provides a ton of comic relief, as well as exceedingly long nicknames for Jake that had me cracking up. She was NOT a fan of Jake at all and fancied herself an amateur detective after watching countless crime shows on TV. I also loved all of Sunny’s other friends and their little side stories. I have to admit, the dog was one of my favorite characters too… LOVED Beau!

The blind dates were comical and entertaining, the mystery was intriguing, the friendships were fun, the characters were fantastic, and I laughed the whole way through this book. If you’re a cozy mystery fan who also likes a little romance and a lot of humor, this is definitely the book for you. I am really hoping the author writes a sequel or two! :)

My Rating: 5/5
